OTM Creates New Innovative Issues Widget to Educate Consumers
OTM Partners' newest innovation, The Issues Widget, was recently unveiled as part of a larger effort to educate consumers about swipe fees. With research indicating consumers believe convenience store owners were making big profits on gasoline sales, OTM seized an opportunity to leverage a disorienting dilemma to generate transformative learning. By engaging users in a purchase at the fuel pump, The Issues Widget demonstrates that store owners actually make very little on gasoline sales. Armed with this new knowledge, consumers are urged to Take Action Today by completing a letter to their elected official. Applying adult learning theory, instructional design principles and interactive expertise, OTM Partners successfully converted learners into advocates in less than 90 seconds. Online Training Wins Marketing Award!
Making coffee, answering phones and selling merchandise – simultaneously – leaves some retail employees stymied. Layering in the concept of preventing underage tobacco sales on top of what is already a harried situation leads to inevitable mistakes. Consequently, when OTM Partners developed a sophisticated online training program to help retailers, it was only natural that convenience stores would take a serious look. Mixing rich Hollywood-style media with gaming technology, retailers gravitated to the program. “Everyone learns better from hands-on instruction. By making the tutorial fun and interactive even the most reticent learners walk away with the tools they need to get the job done,” said Doug Anderson of OTM Partners.
The break-through online training program won top honors at the 2009 M Awards of the American Marketing Association, DC Chapter. AMA-DC is the third largest AMA chapter in the country with more than 1,000 members representing more than 600 organizations. OTM Partners competed against many other entries to win the prestigious M Award.

The online training entry won in the Multimedia and Computer-Based Marketing: Website category. OTM Partners also earned "M Award Finalists" honors in the 2009 “Catalog” and “Print as the Main Focus” campaign award categories.
